Jimbour East crash: Heartbroken mum's 'nightmare' as she wakes up from coma after her husband and two children were killed in deadly crash - and the family lashes out over false reports

Krystal and Phil Harris left their Jandowae home with their daughter, Ocean, 15, and son Warrior, eight, on Monday morning to travel to Dalby, in Queensland's Western Downs region.

A mother who suffered critical injuries in a horror car crash that claimed the lives of her husband and two children has awoken in hospital - as her devastated son slams reports the vehicle was struck while reversing on an 80km/h road. 

Krystal and Phil Harris left their Jandowae home with their daughter,Ocean,15,and son Warrior,eight,on Monday morning to travel to nearby Dalby,in Queensland's Western Downs region.

It was a routine drive the family made regularly - but tragedy struck at about 10.50am when their Nissan Terrano was allegedly hit from behind by a Landcruiser ute on Dalby-Jandowae Road at Jimbour East. 

Phil,54,and the two children died at the scene while Ms Harris,46,was airlifted to Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in a critical condition with chest,abdominal and arm injuries. 

A family friend told Daily Mail Australia Ms Harris woke up from a coma on Tuesday and is due to undergo back surgery.

Forensic crash investigators are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash on the rural road.

The ute driver suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Dalby Patrol Group Inspector Greg Wheeler described the crash scene as 'horrific' and urged motorists to take care behind the wheel.

'It was a bright,sunny day and the crash was on a sealed,straight road,' he said.

'With the school holidays coming up,this tragic accident is a timely reminder for us to all take responsibility,drive to the conditions and ensure we take extra care with the extra traffic we will see on our roads.

'All we can say is plan your trip,plan to get home safe,look after your loved ones and other road users and be sure you are well and truly aware of what you are doing at all times.'
