Neighbours in a quiet leafy street say they were 'scared stiff' after they were woken by police shooting a man with a weapon.
Armed police shot a man in his 20s on a quiet road in Surrey early this morning.
Officers were called to Nursery Road,Knaphill in Woking around 12.36am following an altercation between two people. One man was armed with a weapon in the street.
A 88-year-old retired neighbour,who referred to himself as 'Sands' said: 'I didn't hear anything but my wife heard the bang and she woke me up. It scared her stiff.
'There was a lot of activity around.'

Surrey Police said today: 'We have made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) and will be supporting their investigation. We will not be able to comment further on the independent investigation into this incident.
'Nursery Road is partially closed with limited foot and vehicle access to residents. Please avoid the area where possible for the time being. We appreciate the localised disruption this will cause and would like to thank the community for their cooperation and patience while our enquiries are underway.'
